| 2026-03-12: Cocopedia.com is now using a new caching system that should make things faster. Please let me know if you encounter any new issues.
2026-03-15: MediaWiki has been reinstalled and the old database and files restored. It was pretty clogged up from being upgraded so many times since 2004. I am also testing out Cloudflare to see if it can prevent the 'bot assaults that took the site down last year. OS-9 Al (talk) 21:20, 15 March 2026 (EDT)) |
Talk:Deluxe Joystick
Table instead of bullet points?
[edit source]I tend to prefer tables over lists, especially when there is redundant information that requires repeated verbiage. So I'm going to experiment here with one.
- 26-3012 single red fire button, TRS-80 Deluxe Joystick label, and two same-length arms internally not supported on the opposite side from the potentiometer
- 26-3012A two 'fire' buttons (a red one and a black one), TRS-80 Deluxe Joystick label, and two same-length arms internally not supported on the opposite side from the potentiometer
- 26-3012B two 'fire' buttons (a red one and a black one), Tandy Deluxe Joystick label, and two different length (long and short) arms internally where the long arm is supported by a peg on the opposite side of the potentiometer
| Catalog Number | Branding | Fire Buttons | Debut | Debut Price | Last Seen | Final Price | Mechanism |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 26-3012 | TRS-80 | One red | 1984 RSC-10 p.48 | $39.95 | 1986 RSC-16 p.81 | $29.95 | two same-length arms internally not supported on the opposite side from the potentiometer |
| 26-3012A | Tandy | Two (red, black) | 1987 RSC-17 p.10 | $29.95 | Example | Example | two same-length arms internally not supported on the opposite side from the potentiometer |
| 26-3012B | Tandy | Two (red, black) | Example | Example | 1991 RSC-22a p.24 | $22.95 | two different-length arms internally; the long arm is supported by a peg on the opposite side of the potentiometer |
Like other peripherals, the Deluxe Joystick was compatible with the Tandy 1000 line of PCs, and was advertised as such right from the Tandy 1000's debut in 1985's RSC-14.
Price cuts in Radio Shack catalogs were nearly always a sign that a product was going to be canceled or replaced by a newer model.
In 1986, the 26-3012's price was slashed from $39.95 to $29.95 in both RSC-15's Color Computer section and the main catalog's CoCo section . The same held true in RSC-15's Tandy 1000 section and the main catalog's Tandy 1000 section. The price held steady in RSC-16's CoCo section and Tandy 1000 sections.
Sure enough, by 1987 RSC-17's Tandy 1000 section and CoCo section clearly showed a the new Tandy-branded two-button joystick, but still priced at $29.95, and with no change in the catalog number, and no ad blurb touting the second button. It was not unusual for Tandy to refrain from specifying, in its catalogs, the final letter in a catalog number.
