2026-03-12: Cocopedia.com is now using a new caching system that should make things faster. Please let me know if you encounter any new issues.

2026-03-15: MediaWiki has been reinstalled and the old database and files restored. It was pretty clogged up from being upgraded so many times since 2004. I am also testing out Cloudflare to see if it can prevent the 'bot assaults that took the site down last year.

2026-03-16: Special thanks to Don Barber for hosting a backup mirror of CoCopedia: https://cocopedia.dgb3.net

News stories for Episode #173, August 15, 2020 show:

=====================================

1) Boisy has released The Coco Collector Part 4, which is about the Canadian French version of the Coco 2. In a twist, he actually does the episode in French, too!

 https://youtu.be/cU4vOGXS3eE

2) Keith (ChibiAkumas) on YouTube has another Dragon/Coco assembly language tutorial episode - this time for reading the joysticks and keyboard:

 https://youtu.be/QlnXqshkTyw

3) Jim Gerrie has a video up for the Lissajous program from Creative Computing in 1979 (based on a program by Larry Ruane in 1977), converted over to the MC-10. This is a set of curves drawn using some math I don't understand. :-)

4) Glen Dahlgren (who guested on our show a few weeks ago), has put up an image of the dust jacket for the hardcover version of his novel coming out on August 16th:

5) Ralph Klein has released the CocoPI update - MAME 0.223 on both the Pi3 and the Pi4: (I will only show one link on the show)

6) Boysontech has posted a picture of a new version of the design of a little satellite board that will allow a Sound/Speech pack to run at .895, 1.78 and 2.86 MHz. Unfortunately, in order to get it to work properly with everything 100%, the mod now requires 1 trace cut. But it's a cheap upgrade; he is expecting it to cost around $12.00 USD:

7) Guillaume Major has released an update to the "complete Coco SDC image", which now has 600+ new disk images of applications, games, demos, educational, etc. compared to the previous version.

8) Curtis F. Kaylor in the MC-10 group on Facebook, showed some output from his TP-10 simulator program (TP-10 was the small thermal printed that Tandy sold):

9) James Tamer has uploaded Virtual MC-10 version 0.73i, which includes some bug fixes. This is an MC-10 emulator that also has extended graphics capabilities that go well beyond the MC-10 hardware.

10) Another very young fella did a Coco 2 restoration on YouTube (channel: Jackson's_antiqueAdventures) retrobrighting it:

11) TJBChris has a new video on tricks you can do with the LOADM command:

 https://youtu.be/MzO7t87baTo

12) A YouTube channel called hirudov2d did multiple videos of different Coco's (and a Dragon-64) (in MAME, I believe?) with both 6809 and 6309 settings, but just running some small BASIC programs, which doesn't show the differences between the CPU's. He/she does cover Coco 1, 2, 3.

13) Glenside has their latest newsletter out that I haven't had a chance to read yet - Stevie, can you let us know what is in this issue?

 https://youtu.be/IGFFXY_si7U

He also has a port to the MC-10 from an old Dragon 32 game from the book "More Programs for your Dragon 32" from 1984, called Joust (no relation to the arcade game of the same name), originally by Clive Gifford.

 https://youtu.be/LVv4x_7pz5g

Also a game called Civil War, from Creative Computing:

And lastly, Time Bomb (originally by David J. Bohlke in 1978, a bunch of programs that Jim modified to use Anders Carlsson's new CLS routine written in ML, and a demo of Curtis F. Kaylor's graphic program. This video is also recorded using the latest VMC10i emulator by James Tamer, whom we mention(ed) in the regular news.

3) Paul Shoemaker shows some possible palettes that he is considering for a Wizardry clone that he is calling Sorcery, for the Coco 3 320x200x4 color mode (see his video in the comments that shows a faster version):

4) Jerry Stratton has a text version of Hunt the Wumpus (based on the original published by Creative Computing around 1980), but written in hi SuperBasic (a modern style language that converts to Extended BASIC):

5) Erico Monteiro has two new blogs up (from August 11 and 13) about the ongoing development about his semi-graphics fighting game: Part 2: which covers drawing in different ways which result in different speeds, and looking at PONG:

 https://vintageisthenewold.com/a-trs-80-color-computer-commercial-quality-action-fight-game-in-basic-part-2/

Part 3: where he goes into the advantages/disadvantages of different sized characters for animation and speed (remember, this is written in BASIC)

 https://vintageisthenewold.com/a-trs-80-color-computer-commercial-quality-action-fight-game-in-basic-part-3/

6) Erico also put up a video of him testing some stuff, but of big interest was his playing Cashman on screens 40+ (the puzzle screens, with invisible pieces, etc.). He shows going from 40 to 42.

 https://youtu.be/UAUHVGMlSMI?t=236

7) Our own Stevie did a live stream demo of Rally-SG and the [REDACTED GAME] III Public beta:

 https://youtu.be/BIfepYk8wYE

8) Simonwgb did a 3 hour stream on Twitch (also on YouTube) playing about half a dozen Dragon 32 games:

(Caverns of Chaos, Eddie Steady Go: 44:42, Chuckie Egg, Donkey King, etc.)
 https://youtu.be/eWaJi82Dmgo?t=114

9) Adam Haase has released a complete map and tips breakdowns of the huge Coco 3 RPG game, The Seventh Link. I now have such things for both Gates of Delerium and The Seventh Link; I just have to make them web friendly and add them to the site.

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10158526242022641/

(open some sample images to show... I have chosen 3 things from the first world (Elira - there are 4 in the game): the text description, the world map, and a sample castle map from within that first world)
