2026-03-12: Cocopedia.com is now using a new caching system that should make things faster. Please let me know if you encounter any new issues.

2026-03-15: MediaWiki has been reinstalled and the old database and files restored. It was pretty clogged up from being upgraded so many times since 2004. I am also testing out Cloudflare to see if it can prevent the 'bot assaults that took the site down last year.

News stories for August show: 1) Ben Drakes released a video of him playing Phantom Slayer with VR on the Omni (which we have seen before), but now using an enhanced Coco 3 palette: https://youtu.be/CdtfKy54X2g

2) Jim Gerrie has three more MC-10 games out: Square Force Alpha, Shop Steward (ported from Apple II) & Dungeon of Death (ported from the PET). https://youtu.be/2czYPZVklJI https://youtu.be/c0-O79UCrFM https://youtu.be/3kTkgQvPxGU

3) Erico Monteiro has been working on an image layer for modern graphics tools to help design colors and screens for Nick Marentes' new dual page flipping SG4 graphics editor/adventure game engine. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q2q3_1K5Gs8gXPPu8Mq-5MaLoFbn7gD0

4) Retro Arcade Gaming has released their latest video comparing both official ports and clones of arcade games, with Berzerk the subject of this one. Mark Data Products Color Berzerk (Haywire) is the very first clone shown on this video, and he mentions a couple of other Coco clones, but says that this is the one closest to the arcade. I have to agree. https://youtu.be/jhI38xKoVpY

5) Coco Crew podcast #50 dropped this week. You can listen to it and view the show notes at cococrew.org

6) Sheldon MacDonald has video demonstrating and explaining his Qmidi studio player that uses the GMC cartridge. He also shows his new 3d printed cartridge case. His sound cartridge works a little different in that the sound comes in through the cassette port; this way you can turn any playing music on or off with just AUDIO ON/AUDIO OFF. He also demonstrates some other software tweaks (fade out to end a song, change note lengths). https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/permalink/10157369283037641/

7) Nick Marentes has Chapter 19 of his Gunstar Blog (and Vlog) up, covering his design of level 2. http://www.nickmarentes.com/Gunstar/19.html

8) Atari Vision has posted a video on YouTube of his top 5 favorite Coco games of all time: https://youtu.be/gLvw0jnT7aI Now, these are all Coco 1/2 games, so I asked him if could do a Coco 3 top 5 as well. Haven't heard back yet.

9) This seems to be the week for Coco Game videos - Laird's Lair has his video with 25 great shoot em ups for the Coco & Dragon (due to no artifacting on a few, like Astro Blast, I think it more favours the Dragon): https://youtu.be/LItQvaTwyCc

Other segments (may be under news, or on their own): A) Get Jason (Cocoman) to talk/show about the show he attended last week. He has a 15 minute video pre-done. B) Possibly live (or pre-taped) coverage of VCF from Tim Lindner, Mikey, Rob Inman, Mark Overholser C) Hopefully we can get a live "review" of one of Ed Snider's new keyboards (from Paul Shoemaker, Scott Wendt, etc.) as well. D) If Bruce Moore, Diego Barizo, David Lord and/Richard Kelly are on, maybe a Core Dump on MLBasic vs. C-Basic compilers that all 4 of them have been using lately.
