The Motorola 6809EP from the CoCo 1 & 2

The Motorola 6809 is the central processing unit (CPU) of the CoCo.

It is an 8/16-bit microprocessor, and is considered to be one of the best 8-bit CPUs ever.

In the CoCo 1 and 2, the 6809EP, 1MHz rated variant is used. This indicates External clock, and Plastic encapsulated.

In the CoCo 3, the 68B09EP is used, this part rated up to 2 MHz. It can be replaced by the Hitachi 6309
